GREEN THUMB SUPPORT FOR SCHOOL GARDENS IN PERIL!

As of June 30, Green Thumb (the organization that provides support to our school garden) will have $0 left in its budget for materials and technical support.  Because of Green Thumb’s funding this year I was able to attend multiple workshops on composting, seed starting, season extension, curriculum development, and garden planning.  As a result of our school’s participation in these workshops we received the following:

20 bags of organic topsoil and compost
2 flats of organic vegetable and herb starts
2 single-tier grow light stands
2 large bags of seed starter mix
6 gardening reference and children’s books
In addition, it is not clear if the grant program for GrowToLearn will be funded in the coming year.  We received a $1,000 grant which paid for:
1 3-tier grow light stand
Several visits/workshops with a certified garden educator
IN TOTAL PS3 HAS RECEIVED $1,740 IN MATERIALS AND SUPPORT FROM GROWTOLEARN/GREEN THUMB.
Please take 5 minutes and call Christine Quinn 212.564.7757 and tell her how important, crucial this funding is to public school gardens across the city.  You can email her as well by following this link: http://council.nyc.gov/d3/html/members/home.shtml.
Thanks very much for your support, Cristina Latici, co-chair, Gardening Committee
