Get Involved

Parent Teacher Association
With dwindling budgets from the DOE, parent participation can be what makes a good school into a great school.  At PS3, we have an active PTA which works to support and enrich the academic and social life of all the students.  All families, teachers and staff are automatically members of the PTA and are encouraged to attend meetings which take place monthly throughout the school year (see PTA page for details). Child care for school-aged children is available during these meetings.  Parents are also encouraged to volunteer as much as they are capable for school events, fund raisers and programs sponsored by the PTA.

Class Parents
Another way to get involved is to become a Class Parent. Class parents help teachers by helping to raise funds for special projects within the classroom, helping to organize class trips and special events, facilitating communication between families in the class, the teacher and the school in general. This is one of the best ways to get to know the ins and outs of PS3.  If your interested in finding out more, go to the Class Parent page of this website.

There are many opportunities to help support PS3. Check out the committee pages of this website and see if one of them suits your interests.  Or spend a few hours helping out at one of our many fund raising events. If everyone donated just a few hours throughout the school year it would really make a difference. And it’s a great way to be apart of our vibrant school community.

Look out for meeting notices on the website, in Terry’s email notes or on posters around the school. Or, contact the committee chairs to let them know you’re interested. (Listed on the Committees page.)

And let us know your interests and special skills you can offer by downloading and filling out this PS3 Volunteer Form. You can return it to ptapresident@ps3nyc.org or hand it to your class parent.

Here’s what’s ahead.

Become a Class Parent
Each class needs at least two parents to help work with teachers organizing events in the class, aiding in communication among parents, and overseeing class fundraising. Check out the Class Parent Committee page of this site for more details.

Garden Committee
Parent volunteers are needed to help out in classes participating in the garden project. Specific classes in need of parent volunteers are:

Kimberly — Pre-K
Heidi — Sp Ed K-2
Amie — K/1
Tara & Michael — 4
Priscilla — Sp Ed 3-5
If your child is in one of these classes or if you are willing to help out, get in touch with Cristina Latici at finnbla2@hotmail.com.

Auction for the Arts
Our fabulous annual spring benefit, generally held in April, is a true community event. We need volunteers for the night of the event, donations for auction items and much more. If you can help out, please contact Kirk Arrowood at karrowoo@gmail.com.

Author Reading Series (Off-site, various times)
Help plan and organize a series of readings at locations outside of school. Contact Fundraising Co-Chairs Kirk at karrowoo@gmail.com or Bob Osborne at bob@theosbornegroup.com if you’re interested in helping out.

Spring Fling
Bouncy castles, face painting, crafts, great food, live band karaoke – this is not only a great fundraiser and a great community builder, it’s just plain loads of fun. This event takes place in the spring and literally spills out of the auditorium and gym onto Grove Street. If you’re interested in helping out, get in touch with Sue at sueunkenholz@gmail.com or our PTA Co-presidents at ptapresident@ps3nyc.org.
