After much discussion and some input from helpful DoE representative Jennifer Greenblat, the bylaws were voted in at the February PTA meeting. Much of the practical business of the PTA will remain the same but next year we will see some changes in the way we organize ourselves. The Executive Board will consist of the mandatory members – president or co-president, treasurer or co-treasurers, secratary or co-secretaries plus two Vice Presidents and 2 – 6 Members at Large with one of these positions reserved for a new parent to be elected during the September PTA meeting. The idea behind the new construction is to expand the Executive Board and try to inspire more people to become involved, particularly parents who may not feel comfortable taking on the duties of one of the officers.
Also outlined in the new bylaws is the creation of a specific sub-committee to help get input from the general membership on how to spend the funds we raise. This new Financial Planning sub-committee will plan “charrettes” or meetings where parents can come and propose and discuss ideas for the coming year.
