CB2 meeting on 7th Avenue South traffic

Please join us for a Community Board 2 meeting about the 7th Ave South redesign at Morton Street and all along this six-lane speedway.
Thursday, May 4  at   6:30 pm
NYU Silver Building at 32 Waverly Place, Room 520

Your observations will have a direct impact – this is a presentation of a DOT budgeted and soon to implemented plan.
regarding:  intersections that rank in the top 1% of Manhattan’s intersections for people killed or severely injured from DOT’s 2009-13 stats. The DOT has called 7th Ave South a “crash corridor” in a “Vision Zero Priority Area”
I know it might be difficult to attend yet another CB2 meeting . . . however, I urge you to do so (this item will be the first discussed at 6:30, kids welcome)
we need folks who cross 7th Ave South regularly.
We need parents who understand the future volume of kids soon to be crossing 7Av South along Morton St. towards the new school, percolating from 7Av S and 6Av subways, crossing at Morton as well as Commerce, Barrow above and Leroy just below — all six-lane crossings with absolutely no safety paint, no crosswalks painted. We need very specific advocates, intersection by intersection, for specific improvements on 7th Ave South.
This meeting is especially useful for parents to attend because:
The DOT counts cars/bikes, but not pedestrians or the high volume of kids in schools public or private.
The DOT has no understanding that two to four times a day an additional 900 young kids and staff will soon be percolating across the six lanes of lower 7th Ave South — they’ll need to hear about the kids, the staff, the rules (kids get out for lunch) after school etc.
